INTRODUCTION CHILEAN OR URUGUAYAN NEEDLEGRASS
Chilean or Uruguayan Needlegrass (Nassella neesiana) is a monocot weed in the Poaceae family.  In New Zealand this weed first evolved resistance to Group 0 (Legacy Z) herbicides in 1992 and infests Pastures.   Group 0 (Legacy Z) herbicides are known as Unknown (Unknown).  Research has shown that these particular biotypes are resistant to dalapon and they may be cross-resistant to other Group 0 (Legacy Z) herbicides.

Field, and Greenhouse trials comparing a known susceptible Chilean or Uruguayan Needlegrass biotype with this Chilean or Uruguayan Needlegrass biotype have been used to confirm resistance. For further information on the tests conducted please contact the local weed scientists that provided this information.
